Smt. Mamta Sharma, Chairperson, NCW was the chief guest at conference on Women Awareness and Safety on 8th October, 2013 at Pearay Lal Auditorium jointly organized by GAIL (India) Ltd and AROH Foundation
GAIL (India) Ltd and AROH Foundation jointly organized a conference on Women Awareness and Safety on 8 October, 2013 at Pearay Lal Auditorium. Objective of this conference was to create awareness about women’s rights, existing and new law and order provisions for their safety and launching of a helpline for the beneficiaries of GARIMA project, which is a GAIL CSR initiative in partnership with AROH.
Ms. Mamta Sharma, Chairperson, NCW was the chief guest and Dr Chandra Tripathi the first lady of GAIL India was the Guest of Honour. Dr Neelam Gupta, President AROH Foundation, Dr Sanjay Dubey, ADG Prasar Bharti, Lakshmi Kamath, ACP Women’s Cell, Vandana Chanana GM (CSR) GAIL were also present on this occasion. More than 600 beneficiaries of the project GAIL GARIMA benefited from this conference.
Chief guest Ms. Mamta Sharma (Chairperson-NCW) and Dr Chandra Tripathi launched the Helpline 1800-102-4373 for GARIMA beneficiaries. After launching the helpline number she in her address said that the helpline number would be boon for the women as one can call up and register their complaints when in distress. She also motivated the women to raise their voice against injustice, harassment and violence and assured that NCW will always be by their side.
Dr. Chandra Tripathi (The first lady if GAIL India), while addressing the women asked them to take advantage of the program GAIL GARIMA, and to get empowered and raise their voice against injustice. She also interacted with beneficiaries to understand their problems and wished them for an empowered life.
Mrs Vandana Chanana (GM-CSR of GAIL India), in her inaugural address welcomed the dignitaries and addressed the gathering on Women Empowerment, Safety & Rights. In her address she stated that the program GAIL GARIMA has been devised to empower less privileged women residing in the slum pockets of Delhi, NCR with vocational skills like Cutting & Tailoring, Beauty Culture, Handicrafts, Food Making etc so as to make them independent and live their life knowing their rights. The program which has been initiated in the year 2011 has till now empowered more than 5000+ women and is on the path of covering more women in the coming years.
Dr Neelam Gupta (President, AROH Foundation) in her speech, stated the fact that the project GAIL GARIMA has been envisaged to empower economically mothers of project ‘Padho aur Badho’ so that their children can attend school and not work. The skills taught under GAIL GARIMA would definitely help the women beneficiaries to have a sustainable livelihood and regular source of income.
Dr Sanjay Dubey (ADG-Prasar Barathi) shared his views on women’s rights and media is playing an active role in ensuring their safety and security.
The conference ended with valedictory speech by Mr Anoop Gupta (DGM-CSR) of GAIL India.
